Recognized as one of the most active shopping concept developers in the region,
the Majid Al Futtaim group first introduced the hypermarket model to the Middle
East in 1995. Majid Al Futtaim Retail manages Majid Al Futtaim Hypermarkets, and
this joint venture with Carrefour has allowed the hypermarket to become a firm fixture
in the region’s retail arena.
In the last three years, Majid Al Futtaim Hypermarket has opened an impressive 14
new Carrefour stores, making a total of 37 hypermarkets across the Middle East.
During 2010, Majid Al Futtaim Retail expects to open an additional ten new stores.
Carrefour’s impressive reputation has been built over the years thanks to the quality
and freshness of the products on offer, and its commitment to customer service and
competitive prices. Carrefour stores aim to offer a ‘one-stop-shop’, with an extensive
range of personal care, communication, leisure, entertainment and household goods,
clothes and of course, food, which has enabled Carrefour to meet the diverse needs
of its busy customers in the Middle East.
Carrefour’s own-brand products offer value for money and are popular with consumers,
contributing substantially to the organization’s growth in sales. The joint venture
between Majid Al Futtaim Retail and Carrefour currently employs 13,000 people from
more than 50 different nationalities.
